Accessories Maketh the Brand; Penfield’s Palm-Print Tent.

Penfield are a brand who have really sprung up everywhere in the last few years. They’re one of those old, American outdoors brands who, not quite ‘outdoorsy’ enough to be considered up there quality-wise with Patagonia or The North Face, really needed the late-naughties popular Americana revival to springboard them back into being some kind of name. A lot of their collections are a bit Urban Outfitters, even a bit John Lewis, but the classic Kasson 60/40 parka, the Hoosac down parka (faux-fur only please) and the Gibson jacket are timeless classics that trump what negative connotations the brand itself might now have.

However, those coats aren’t the point of this new series – it’s accessories. Those little, useless bits and pieces that are available better and cheaper elsewhere but much better because they have a brand logo on them. Specifically, this week I want to talk about this absolute belter of a tent. When I say belter, what I mean to say is…well I like the pattern. It probably wouldn’t even keep a light drizzle from coming through and at £55 you’d kind of hope for better quality. But look at it! Outstanding.
